Olney Mill residents on Clover Hill Lane report that their truck and van were broken into on Sunday, February 17. Cash and credit cards were stolen.
Vehicle burglaries tend to occur in clusters in communities. There have been numerous vehicle burglaries in Tanterra and greater Olney in recent days. Olney Mill residents should be prepared!
Some tips: Lock your car and truck doors, even if they are parked in your driveway. Do not leave valuables in your car or truck. This is especially true of keys and garage door openers. Please don’t leave spare keys to your house or other vehicles in your cars or trucks. Don’t leave the garage door opener in a car parked outside your garage.

Seasons Greetings!! Our annual Tree Lighting will be held at the Olney Mill House this Sunday, December 2, starting at 7:00 pm. Note that the Mill Stream mistakenly listed the event as being on December 1. It will be on Sunday, as usual. We are hoping for a Special Visitor to arrive at 7:30 (don’t tell your kids, but bring your cameras)! We will be serving hot chocolate, apple cider, cookies, and a few other treats, compliments of OMCA. The Cub Scouts will be tending the bonfire outside the Mill House. As with last year, we will hand out tickets to see Santa. There will be 6 groups of tickets (A-F), and one ticket will be given to each family. Pick yours up when you arrive. When your group letter is called, you can join the line. We are doing this so parents can visit with other Olney Mill residents and kids can run around and stay warm rather than spending the evening in line. Those who don’t get tickets will go last, but everyone will definitely have a chance to visit with Santa.
The Children’s Holiday Party will be at Belmont Elementary on Saturday, December 1. Set up will start at 12:00 noon.
We urgently need parent volunteers to help with both of these events. Please call Dennis Twombly at (301) 570-0394 or (301) 461-4357.
See you this weekend!!

Prompted by the initiative of one of our local Greenwood students, we will be conducting a clean-up of the Olney Family Park on Saturday from 8:30 until noon. If enough volunteers show up, we can clean some other key areas as well. We will all meet at 8:30am at the parking lot on Willow Grove. MNCPPC provided us with work gloves and trash bags in the spring, but there aren’t enough left over to go around this time. Bring your own if you can, and wear suitable clothing for the weather (long-sleeve shirt and pants for protection, gloves, water-proof boots, rain jacket for rainy weather). The cleanup will be held regardless of the weather (we’ve done it before in very heavy rain). There will be no rain delay date. Call Dennis at (301) 570-0394 for details or questions. Hope you can join us!!
